Hatters Gin – Stockport’s First Gin Distillery

Distilled in Stockport – using berries, rose and the finest Cheshire Honey from Marple.

Made in the heart of the Stockport, a stones throw from Edgeley Park, Hatters Gin is hand distilled in small batches ensuring we produce a premium local gin that not only celebrates our industrial heritage as the hat making capital of the U.K., but delivers a smooth, traditional gin, with fruity and floral notes that goes great with a premium tonic and a citrus garnish like orange or lime, or fleshy berries to accentaute those fruity notes,  or just however you like it!

We are a family micro distillery where everyone pitches in. Once the head distiller, Sacha, has finished distilling, the family get involved with bottling, labelling, boxing and drinking (or quality assurance as they call it). Ultimately, nothing goes out of the door unless it’s 100% correct, tasting and looking great.

Our Gin

It has taken months to refine our recipe to perfectly balance the classic juniper taste with citrusy lemon and orange peel and the spicy notes of coriander and cardamom, finishing with fruity, floral notes from the rich honey and rose that create a gin that is rich in flavour and depth.

  • Organic Macedonian Juniper
  • Organic Moroccan Corriander
  • Lemon and Orange Peel, Orris, Liquorice & Angelica Root Cardamom
  • Elderberries, Blackberries, Raspberries
  • Rose and Elderflower
  • Cheshire Honey harvested by Steve Mead from his happy bee hives in Mill Brow, Marple.

Our Bottle

A Hatters Gin bottle is filled, corked, labelled, and dipped into a deep blue wax all by hand. So much care is taken at each stage to ensure a fine finish to complement the premium liquid contained inside.

Stockport Hat Making History

Stockport has a a rich industrial history. Being just 7 miles from the cottonopollis that is Manchester, Stockport established itself as a national centre for Hat Making along with Denton, just up the road.

Stockport’s Hat Making started in the 18th century with one of the biggest mills being Battersby’s Hat Works on Hempshawe Lane in Offerton which only stopped producing hats in 1997. Wellington Mill (Hat Works) was built in 1828 and increased Stockport’s Hat Production to 50,000 a week.
